Depression:Living in Silence

Hi friends and fellow mammas happy, happy Tuesday. I hope everyone is fine and doing well.

Today I want to talk about depression because for the last few weeks it has been a major topic around the world. A few days ago I was having a chat with another mom who said that she’s been battling postpartum depression ever since her baby was born; after speaking with her some more she said “let’s put it this way, I am having a very difficult time saying I can’t imagine life without my little one”. She further went on to state that it’s not something that comes and goes, she always has that feeling. I was so shocked I never knew she was going this; she would always support others if she can, give really good advice and be the voice of reason but, she has been silently suffering. I cast no judgment because I am very much aware of what some women go through after they give birth.

It’s OK not to be OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know many women after childbirth have difficulty adjusting to everything that has happened, it’s new, it a brand new chapter in your life, you now have 100% responsibility for another person. Speaking from my own experience after having my daughter; you do go through a period of sadness, anxiety and depression; these feelings are quite normal because of all the hormones your body is trying to regulate. Some women deal with it, while others cannot where they get to the point where they cannot care for their babies and refuse to bond with their little one. I could remember feeling sad for no apparent reason and I told my husband I was sad ; I remember him sitting beside me and reminding me of how blessed we are as parents and that was all I needed to set me straight.

Be Supportive

Husbands, family members and friends need to be supportive during this time; it is a period of sensitivity and adjustment because for some women this is a very emotional period. I can recall during the first few days postpartum I did not have the support I needed even though my husband was there making sure everything was well with baby and me there was some level of negativity from family members that had me very frustrated and I was becoming very angry to the point I was about to explode. I would advise anyone if you are experiencing this “SHUT THAT NEGATIVITY OUT YOU DON’T NEED IT”. I believe some persons are ignorant when it comes to postpartum depression and the importance of emotional and mental support during this time.

Even though I am speaking about postpartum depression I know a lot of persons are suffering from chronic depression and anxiety and their friends and family have clue of what they’re going through. They are hurting silently and putting on a smile each and every day. Sometimes all it takes is to have a simple conversation with someone. Ask them how was their day?  Ask them if everything is alright? Sometimes all they want is for someone to listen. Depression is no joke, its real, so many are suffering with this, its silent and you may never know if someone is suffering with this; because someone may be smiling and they’re screaming on the inside.

If you or someone you know is suffering from depression seek help, it’s never too late.

New Month New Goals

Hi friends and fellow mammas happy, happy Tuesday.

I hope everyone is fine and doing well it’s a new month you have been given a blank page to start over, what are your goals this month ? I know for some of you may want to save more money this month, lose 5 pounds, start a blog,  start a business, exercise more often or even change your approach to life. Whatever your goals are you can achieve it the only obstacle between you and your goals is YOU.

Many times we say that we want to achieve a goal but often times that goal doesn’t become a reality, I am also guilty of this; procrastination always seems to present itself just when we set our mind to do something. I’ve learnt that procrastination is a mindset we are so comfortable living a particular lifestyle and when an opportunity presents itself we let it pass. As mothers we are also guilty of this we put everyone first and ourselves last; sometimes missing out on opportunities because we have “mom guilt”.

Achieving Your Goals

Some say its easier said than done; but I say make the change and take the chance, you have nothing to lose you only have so much to gain. I changed my approach to life, my daily routine and I saw a 360 degree turnaround, sometimes we have to make ourselves uncomfortable in order to achieve the results we want. Here are some tips.

Tips To Achieve Your Goals

  • Schedule your daily tasks, having a plan for your day is essential because structuring your day is key.
  • Get rid of negativity in your life and surround your self with like-minded people. Being around individuals with the same goals as you as well as the same drive for success gives you a greater outlook on life.
  • Set aside a portion of your day ( preferably the morning period) for personal development   listen to a motivational speech or even read a chapter of a motivational book, trust me having a positive start to your day makes a big difference.
  • Daily affirmations of positivity – speak positivity into your life.
  • Make time for prayer and reflection.
  • Make time for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day whether its walking, jogging or even yoga, exercise has been proven to release stress. This is important because we are exposed to so many stressors on a daily basis; setting aside time to unwind daily is important to ourselves so that we can be at our absolute best for our families.

So, if you haven’t set any goals for this month it’s not too late to start.

Baby Products I Use On My Daughter

Hi friends and fellow mammmas happy, happy Wednesday.

I hope everyone is having a great week so far. Today I want to share with you some of the products I have been using on my daughter, I know some moms are very skeptical about products they use on their little one because a baby’s skin is so sensitive. The products I use are from the Cetaphil baby line because she has very sensitive skin. The products listed below were all recommended by my daughters’ pediatrician because she has very sensitive skin.

Baby Wash

This product is so excellent it is soap free and truly amazing for baby’s delicate skin.

Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Creamy Wash

2. Moisturizers And Skin Protectant

These are excellent moisturizing and skin protectant agents especially if your baby has  very dry skin.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Baby Oil

When Life Takes Over.

Hi friends and fellow mammas happy, happy Friday!!!!!!

I hope everyone is fine and in good health as we welcome the weekend. Yesterday I had a mom moment; My husband and I went to the clinic with our daughter because she had an appointment to see the dermatologist about her eczema.  While leaving the clinic I became engulfed in sadness as I looked at other moms with their babies who had perfect skin I then said to myself “why does my daughter have to go through this”, my husband noticed my mood change and asked if everything was alright; I told him yes.

We came home and I was so depressed and sad, I decided to text a friend to update her on my daughter because her daughter has eczema as well, I mentioned to her I was feeling down because of my daughters’ condition. She then told me I shouldn’t think like that because I have so much to be thankful and grateful for; and my daughter is receiving the care she needs. It was at that moment I stopped and thought about all my blessings and remembered how blessed I am.

Moral Of The Story

Sometimes things don’t always go as planned, or even turn out the way we would hope but it is important to always remember how blessed you are. Situations don’t always remain the same and there is always a silver lining on every dark cloud; so look at the bright side always and live a life of gratitude.
